From MC Contributor Giulio Sciorio (SmallCameraBigPicture.com)… Saturday morning I had the idea to shoot JPEG exclusively for the weekend. I put my thoughts together in the post, What am I shooting this weekend? It’s not RAW and it seems like I’m not the only one that is a lover of JPEGS. As I stated in the article I think that the days of shooting RAW are numbered, but then again I also think that the days of HDSLRs are numbered too. The only way for me to find out if I took a cRaZy PiLl or not is to dive in and explore. That’s one [More]

On a Skype conversation last week with my good friend and MC contributor Giulio Sciorio (of SmallCameraBigPicture.com), G gave me a sneak peek at the new Panasonic Lumix G6, which he’s been testing for the company.  Giulio walked me through the G6’s new features and upgrades it has over the G5, and there’s a lot to be impressed with in the new offering.  What has me most excited though, is the wifi and enhanced video capabilities of the G6 as displayed in the video above, where you’ll see Giulio putting the G6 to the test as a travel camera, for [More]

A short while ago, we were intrigued by an iPhone app called Cycloramic that allowed users to create 360 degree panoramic videos by placing their iPhone on a table, where the phone would spin itself around using it’s vibrate function. By popular demand, the makers of Cycloramic have included a panoramic photo mode, where the photos can be taken manually by the user or in the same self pirouette style (with the iPhone 5). Cycloramic is a cool little app that’s definitely a conversation starter, and it would seem that others agree… Awards and Accolades “Unexpected, fanciful, and useful all [More]
Our boy G is back, and this time he’s talking cameras. Amazon is running some HUGE DEALS right now on 2 of our favorite cameras. First up, the Panasonic Lumix LX7 is on sale for only $298 USD.  The LX7 is equipped with a great 10mp sensor, but where the LX7 really shines is the bright, fast Leica branded lens attached to the front.  This is one of, if not THE best lens ever attached to a compact camera.  It’s f/1.4 at it’s widest and it’s macro capabilities are so good that some of my colleagues are actually purchasing LX7s instead of getting an actual macro lens, which costs several hundred [More]

You had to know this was coming… MosaicArchive have created a spoof of the stirring Dodge Truck Superbowl ad (which we have pointed to as a brilliant example of Hybrid Photography), only this time the object of the ad is not a farmer.  It’s a photographer. And on the eighth day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, “I need a documenter,” so God made a photographer God said, “I need someone willing to get up before dawn, deal with models, work in Lightrooms and darkrooms, work with models again, eat supper, and then go to town and [More]

These days, there are a lot of photographers pondering whether or not it might be a good time to consider getting rid of their DSLRs and moving over to mirrorless cameras.  There have been major advancements in mirrorless technology over the last several years that has brought about major improvements in autofocus, high ISO performance, Image Quality, etc., and we’ve witnessed the release of new mirrorless systems like Sony’s NEX 7 (and now, the NEX 6), the Fuji X-Series Cameras (X-Pro1 and X-E1) and the top of the line micro 4/3 cameras from Olympus and Panasonic, the OM-D E-M5 and [More]
Adobe Photoshop is one of the most powerful image editing suites ever produced.  I’ve personally been using it since 1995, and I still don’t know everything it can do.  No doubt that Photoshop is excellent and a great tool for those who know how to use it, but it’s also quite expensive and has a steep learning curve.  But is there an alternative for those who don’t have the time to learn Photoshop or the money to afford it?  Out good friend, street photography ninja and MC Contributor Giulio Sciorio (SmallCameraBigPicture.com and DiscoverMirrorless.com) has compiled a list of not one, [More]
