As a highly renowned photo innovator and educator, MC Contributor and Hybrid Photography Coach to the Pros Will Crockett ( is constantly asked to evaluate the latest cameras, lenses and gear.  Of course, Will is also very well known for not mincing his words…  Good or bad, he’ll tell it like it is.

Sometimes, Will has products come across his desk that quite frankly, leave him less than enthused at first glance.  Such was the case with the new MeFOTO Travel Tripods from Benro.  Give them a cursory look and you’ll see that the MeFOTO Tripods are cut from a different mold than your average piece of stabilization equipment.  They come in all sorts of funky colors – not just black or really really really dark grey.  They also cost about half of what you would expect to pay for a top of the line tripod, so they just can’t be any good, right?  …or can they?

In the video above, Will puts the MeFOTO Tripods through a Real Life Audition to see if they can earn the Crockett Seal of Approval.  Can they win him over and earn a place in his camera bag?

Here’s Crockett’s Take on the MeFOTO Travel Tripods…

“I wasn’t to thrilled when I first laid my eyes on the new Travel Tripods from MeFOTO, but I soon discovered that they were small, light, low cost and easily fit inside my camera bag.  That’s not always the case with other tripods, but these little beauties are made to ride along with you everywhere you go and spring to life when you need them for photo and video.

The MeFOTO Travel Tripods are currently available in two models – the BackPacker and the RoadTrip – and each come in a variety of bright, fun colors which put me off a bit at first (I’m a traditional kind of guy, after all ~_^), but I have to admit that the colors kinda grew on me.  And as I took the MeFOTO Tripods out in public, I found that their bright colors were not just eye catching…  heck, these babies are conversation starters!  They each also come equipped with matching small ball heads, and they’re priced right.

OK…  so they’re purdy.  But could they meet my standards, and would I be able to use them with a pro DSLR, a pro mirrorless, or just a point and shoot?

To find out, I took them out and tested them in a variety of conditions to see if these MeFOTO Tripods are as sturdy and portable as claimed, how big of a camera they would support under Real Life conditions, and most importantly – what would my pro photo clients think when I showed up with a bright blue tripod?  Watch the Real Life Audition above and find out for yourself whether they might rate a spot in your camera bag…”  (Read article on
