Here’s another great idea from Scott Eggleston (aka The Frugal Filmmaker). This time, it’s for a low cost alternative to an OWLE camera stabilizer. By using a Nintendo Wii Steering Wheel and a mini ballhead, Scott creates a mini version of the “FigRig” stabilizer that’s used by many pro and indie videographers. Of course, this option is a bit cheaper.
Fig Rig = $309.99 USD
OWLE = over $100 USD
The Frugal Filmmaker found the Wii Steering Wheel for under $1.00 at the Dollar Store, so you might want to check there first. Otherwise, we found one starting at $1.99 on Amazon (Price is listed at $4.50, but you can click right below that to get the $1.99 deal).
The least expensive ballhead we found was $2.90 on Amazon, but there are others listed for $30 or more.
This option is ideal for anyone who wants to shoot better video with a smaller mirrorless system, like the Sony RX-100, Panasonic Lumix LX7, Panasonic Lumix GF5, Olympus PEN Mini E-PM2 or the Pentax Q10.
