Kai from DigitalRevTV takes a look at the lens that has recently been rated as the worst lens in the world by DXOmark – but the Olympus 15mm Body Cap Lens really that bad, or as Kai puts it, is the DXOmark rating just “utter tripe.”
My 2 Cents
OK… So this lens will never be mistaken for the Olympus 45mm 1.8 lens or any other member of the “M.Zuiko” lineup, but does that mean that there’s no room in your camera bag for the 15mm Body Cap Lens? While it’s true that you’ll never win any awards for HD image resolution with this lens, I don’t think that was the intention of the makers.
With the Body Cap Lens, Olympus have created what is in my mind, a fun little specialty lens to take out for a day of carefree shooting. Of course, at f/8.0 I’m going to emphasize the word “day” – because this lens is much too dark to be used effectively in the dark, but on a bright sunny afternoon you should be able to capture loads of fun images with a cool toy camera look to them.
Does this sound like something you’d use? You make the call, but for only $49 USD – you should find it to be a capable little point and shoot solution that doubles as a body cap.
