We are about to invest in a new camera system. We do want to shoot some still work, but 90% of the decision is based on video performance. We edit primarily on FCPX. Most of our [More]

MC Contributor and Photo/Video/Hybrid Photography Super Hero Will Crockett answers a reader question posed on DiscoverMirrorless.com about sensor size and whether or not it really matters, or if it’s just a bunch of marketing hype? As we’ve stated in this space before, the image quality lines between mirrorless camera systems with their “crop” sensors and “full frame” DSLR systems has been blurred over the last few years, and now there are several mirrorless systems that are cracking the “Pro Level” glass ceiling.  So can the smaller sensors on mirrorless cameras hold their own against the big boys?  More and more [More]

43Rumors reports that the latest tests published by DxOmark reveal that a $5,500 Leica M Full Frame Sensor Camera could not match the image quality of top tier micro 4/3 cameras like the Panasonic Lumix GH3 and the Olympus OM-D E-M5 (see above). This is no slight against the Leica, which is a phenomenal camera.  It’s just more proof that the gap in image quality between micro 4/3 sensors and their “full frame” cousins has been closed.    M43 for the Win! Griffin Hammond of Indy Mogul is packing his bags and headin’ off to Texas for the South by Southwest Film Festival, and he discusses which camera bags he likes to take along for Run and Gun Filming. As a videographer, he’ll typically pack his Panasonic Lumix GH3 and/or Panasonic Lumix GH2, Lenses, Audio Recorders like the Zoom H4n, Microphones, a GoPro Hero3 Action Cam, SDHC Memory Cards and more – so he needs bags with a lot of room and versatility (Don’t we all). Matt Granger from PhotoNewsReviews takes a look at the newly announced Nikon Coolpix A fixed lens digital camera, and compares it with another recent entry into the premium fixed lens compact arena, the Fuji X-100s.  This will probably become a common comparison over the next few months as these are two premium compacts from two of the biggest names in imaging, and they’re in roughly the same price range. The Nikon Coolpix A does have some impressive specs.  It’s loaded the same 16mp APS-C sensor that can be found in the Nikon D7000 DSLR, but with the Coolpix A, Nikon have [More]

MC Contributor, Hybrid Photography Pioneer and Photo-Video Ninja Will Crockett replies to a reader question about LED Lighting on our sister website, DiscoverMirrorless.com. Will writes… “The ultimate hybrid photo studio is decked out with all LED mains, fills and hairlights so we can shoot still photos or video files at any time. To do that, we need to abandon flash and go to continuous light. LED panels are available now for the broadcast video folks with high CRI rating and are becoming semi-affordable.  But unfortunately, very few LED lights are ready for pro level still photography…  yet.” Will also discusses [More]
