When I did my Review of the Best Cameras of 2012 a few days ago, I only included video cameras that were less than $3000 USD in price, and I deliberately didn’t include high end video shooters like the RED Epic or Arri Alexa since most of us aren’t large Hoillywood movie producers with multi-million dollar budgets to play with. But one thing that I’ve noticed recently is that, since last years Zacuto Shootout, where the Panasonic Lumix GH2 was one of the top rated cameras, and since the launch of high quality video cameras (under $3k) like the BlackMagic Cinema Camera and the Panasonic Lumix GH3, the price of some of those big name cameras is beginning to come down. Could they be feeling the heat because the quality of the under $3k crowd is that much better?… and how would a camera like the Panasonic Lumix GH3 stack up to the big boys?
We found a video by Sittipong Kongtong on Vimeo (above) that just may hold the answer.
We’ll leave the final decision up to you (and please share your thoughts in the comments section below), but IMHO – the GH3 is looking pretty good against the cam-zillas – and when you slap a good lens on the front (like one of the new Panny Pro Zooms), it’s tough to beat.
