In the video above, MC Contributor and Hybrid Photography Pioneer Will Crockett (DiscoverMirrorless.com) sits down with master portrait photographer Marc Hauser as he looks for a better way to shoot his famous sepia toned images. Will and Marc work to make-over over Marc’s Chicago studio to see if using a mirrorless camera might be the still photo solution he’s looking for… which as Will put’s it, is to “capture the still photos that Marc is famous for, but with the secret sauce done in the camera, then having the added bonus of shooting high quality video that will match Marc’s [More]
PetaPixel posted an article (and the video above) about the “blazing fast autofocus speed” of the new Fuji X-100s compact digital camera.  As we noted in an earlier post, Fuji’s focus in 2013 is on speed, and with their new X-Trans II sensor, Fuji appear to have succeeded in adding that speed to the top of class image quality of their sensors. PetaPixel Reports “When Fujifilm announced the X100s last week, it made the bold claim that the camera had the world’s fastest autofocus system among cameras of the same class. Sluggish autofocus was one of the big complaints owners [More]
The video above is a quick look at the new Fuji X20 Fixed Lens Compact Camera (courtesy of DigitalCameraWorld), which features 50 improvements over it’s predecessor, the Fuji X10, and incoporates Fuji’s new X-Trans II CMOS Sensor and upgraded processing technology. DPReview has also posted a hands on preview based on a pre-production model they got their hands on for evaluation. Highlights of DPR’s hands on preview: At first glance, the X20 looks just like its predecessor the X10, although it’s now available in a very pretty silver-and-black finish, alongside the conventional all-black. But inside it offers a couple of [More]
Billy from the FujiGuys gives a hands on preview of the new Fuji X-100S and highlights the changes from the previous model, the X-100. The X-100S features an all new X-Trans CMOS Sensor with a Phase Detection Pixel built in.  Does this mean that Fuji have now closed the gap in Autofocus speed with other top line mirrorless and DSLR systems?  The demonstrations that Billy gives in the video look promising, but we’ll reserve final judgement until a final production version is released (and we can get our hands on one).  If Fuji have succeeded in producing the lightning fast [More]
PetaPixel posted an article stating that Fuji are touting their new X20 and X100S cameras as having the “World’s fastest autofocus”, but seem to partially retract that claim in an update at the end of the article, downgrading it to rumor status, stating that Fuji have removed the claim from their website.  (Read article on PetaPixel – video above from Oscar50Channel) My 2 Cents I’m hoping that the rumor turns out to be true.  Fuji make some phenomenal stuff, most notably their X-Series Compact Digital Cameras (which we have recognized as the best stills cameras of 2012), but they are [More]
m43.eu posted a great side by side autofocus speed test of the Olympus OM-D E-M5 vs the new Canon EOS M.  Canon have arrived late to the mirrorless party and the EOS M is a hot seller, but the camera itself is less than impressive in a lot of ways – particularly it’s pitiful autofocus performance – and has become a bit of a joke in mirrorless circles (witness the hilarious video below from The Camera Store in Calgary, Canada). The EOS M is a decent camera, and in some ways, it does show some promise.  But when you stack it [More]
From 4/3 Rumors – The Phoblographer pits the Fuji X-Pro 1 against the Olympus OM-D E-M5 to see which camera has the fastest autofocus speed. The Fuji just got a new firmware upgrade that has greatly enhanced it’s AF speed, but is that enough to keep up with the blazing fast speed of the OMD? Watch and see… The X-Pro 1 and the OM-D E-M5 are two of our absolute favorite mirrorless cameras, and both of them produce STUNNING QUALITY IMAGES that rival (and even surpass) just about any DSLR out there. You really can’t go wrong with either system, [More]
The Sony NEX-5R along with the NEX-6 has been leaked. Featuring a new 16MP sensor, 180-degrees tilt, WiFi support, Apps, Web Browsing & phase detection autofoucs. Earlier this month we heard rumors of the next entries in Sony’s NEX line of mirrorless cameras, and now that information has been corroborated by photos purporting to be of the models in question. Chinese site VR-Zone has several alleged images of the NEX-5R and NEX-6, and both cameras look like they’ll break some new ground in Sony’s hardware design. The NEX-5R is said to be the follow-up to the NEX-5N and follows the [More]
