Pro Fashion Photog Jonathan Posner lists 10 reasons why he’s trading in his gi-normous and cumbersome Canon 5D mk II and opting to go with on Olympus OM-D E-M5 instead.  Posner’s is just one of the latest names on a growing list of pros who are figuring out that the newest generation of mirrorless camera systems have come a loooooong way from the early releases of a few years ago, and the newest kids on the block can now easily hang with the big boys when it comes to Image Quality, and they pack a vast array of advanced features [More]
In the 4th and final installment of his series on “How To Set Up Your Panasonic Lumix GH3 Like a BOSS”, MC Contributor and Hybrid Street Photography Ninja Giulio Sciorio (DiscoverMirrorless.com and SmallCameraBigPicture.com) peels back the curtain to reveal how he gets the most out of the GH3’s custom settings. Giulio writes… “I’ll show you how I can quickly build custom settings such as Retro, Color and Monochrome looks and store them in the GH3′s C1-3 buttons…like a BOSS. Now that you’ve got your function buttons set, quick menu customized and JPEG settings hooked up, you’re almost ready to shoot [More]
It’s broken record time, as any regular visitor this website has no doubt read that we wholeheartedly believe that the Image Quality gap that once existed (and not very long ago) between full frame cameras and their smaller and lighter mirrorless cousins has been significantly narrowed…  heck – it’s been closed!  Now it seems like more and more former full frame shooters are beginning to realize this as well, and many are making the switch to mirrorless cameras and seeing numerous additional advantages besides the smaller size and weight of mirrorless systems (advanced autofocus tracking and video performance that runs [More]
Looks like the new Fuji X100s is a force to be reckoned with in the realm of premium compact cameras, as it has just collected another highly positive review – this time, collecting 5 out of 5 stars and a rating of “Essential” from the reviewers at PhotographyBlog. PhotographyBlog Concludes… “It may look almost identical to the original X100, but the new X100S includes so many improvements, particularly to its operational speed, that it definitely feels like shooting with an entirely new camera. We were skeptical about what the X100S would offer and whether it could tempt X100 owners (ourselves included) [More]

TheCameraStore‘s Chris Niccolls recently had a chance to test two of this year’s most anticipated cameras: The Fuji X100s and Fuji X20. What’s new? The X100s and X20 are the follow up cameras to Fuji’s popular X100 and X10 cameras, and on the outside you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between these new cameras and their predecessors.  But as Chris puts it, the X100s and X20 are “evolutionary cameras” that keep the best features of their predecessors while fixing a lot of the things that shooters didn’t like.  One of the biggest improvements is that both cameras are equipped [More]
In Part II of his 4 part series on “How To Set Up Your Panasonic Lumix GH3 Like a BOSS”, MC Contributor and Hybrid Street Photography Ninja Giulio Sciorio (DiscoverMirrorless.com and SmallCameraBigPicture.com) dives into the Quick Menus on Panasonic’s new flagship camera. Giulio writes… “Every time I shoot with the GH3, I use the quick menu…every time! The quick menu is great for recalling settings on the fly instead of having to dig through the main menu on a regular basis. Using the quick menu will save you time and help you with your shooting accuracy, which of course makes you [More]
I’ve been trying to spread the love around with featured camera deals and stories, etc.  But honest to God, Panasonic have been offering such HUGE DEALS on some great cameras lately (I actually just received my Lumix LX7 that I snapped up for only $298 USD!) and they’re just too good to not share with our readers, especially considering that many of these deals are gone as soon as we can post them. Here are 3 deals I came across on the Lumix GX1, a tremendous camera that sold for anywhere from $700 to $900 USD just a scant year [More]
DigitalCameraWorld take a look at the new Sony NEX 3N, which comes as the direct replacement to Sony’s entry level compact system camera, the NEX F3.  As with the F3, the NEX 3n is aimed squarely at those looking to make the jump from a point and shoot digital compact to a camera with interchangeable lenses. My 2 Cents In terms of build quality and image quality, the Sony NEX 3n is indeed impressive when compared to other entry level interchangeable lens cameras.  It’s loaded up with the same 16mp sensor that powers it’s bigger brothers, the NEX 5r and [More]

In this part, G focuses on the GH3’s 7 Custom Function Buttons. Giulio writes… “The Lumix GH3 is the only hybrid camera made for professionals and I love it. When properly set up for how I shoot, the GH3 just gets out of my way and lets me create. In this video, I’ll go over each of the GH3′s 7 custom function buttons, how [More]
43Rumors received a nice piece of trivia regarding the Panasonic Lumix GH2.  It seems that Top Gear, which is the world’s most watched television show, uses the GH2 for their aerial photography (so it was most likely used in the sequence above). Here’s the tip as it appears on 43Rumors P13DigitalMedia sent me [the picture below] with the following text: “If you want some trivia, the world’s most watched TV show, Top Gear uses the Lumix GH2 for aerial shots (pic via twitter).”  The BBC has very strict rules regarding image quality and I am glad to see they use the [More]
When I read this news report, I found myself checking the calendar.  After all, April 1st is fast approaching, and when you really consider what Canon look to be doing, you are left with the feeling that you’re being punked.  Even Canonwatch seem to be skeptical as they bold the words “appears to be real” in their article. Canonwatch Reports… The extra-small DSLR Canon is working on appears to be real. A very trustworthy source sent me a list of specifications, and it appears that there are already prototypes out in the wild undergoing testing. The spec list I got: [More]
In the video above, MC Contributor and Hybrid Photography Pioneer Will Crockett answers a reader question that was posted by a gentleman named Trace on our sister site, DiscoverMirrorless.com. Question… “We do video work and for some clients, and we need to achieve a little more of an “artisan” look than I can get from a Canon XF100 (in particular shallow depth of field). We are about to invest in a new camera system. We do want to shoot some still work, but 90% of the decision is based on video performance. We edit primarily on FCPX. Most of our [More]

The X100s and X20 are the follow up cameras to Fuji’s popular X100 and X10 cameras, and though they might look a lot like their predecessors, they’re loaded up with Fuji’s all new X-Trans II Sensors and EXR II Processing technology, which enables them to pop out images of mind-blowing quality while great upping their speed, including autofocus speed which Fuji now claims is the “fastest in the world” [More]
MC Contributor and Photo/Video/Hybrid Photography Super Hero Will Crockett answers a reader question posed on DiscoverMirrorless.com about sensor size and whether or not it really matters, or if it’s just a bunch of marketing hype? As we’ve stated in this space before, the image quality lines between mirrorless camera systems with their “crop” sensors and “full frame” DSLR systems has been blurred over the last few years, and now there are several mirrorless systems that are cracking the “Pro Level” glass ceiling.  So can the smaller sensors on mirrorless cameras hold their own against the big boys?  More and more [More]
Since it’s launch in September of 2012, the Panasonic Lumix GH3 has been receiving hoards of positive reviews and praise from both photo and video professionals the world over.  There’s no doubt that the GH3 is a top caliber camera, but is it the best mirrorless camera ever? Popular Photography Magazine thinks so, and they’re featuring the Lumix GH3 on the cover of their latest issue (see below) G on the GH3 MC Contributor Giulio Sciorio wrote the following in an article on SmallCameraBigPicture.com Pop Photo is calling the Panasonic Lumix GH3 the best mirrorless camera to date, and I [More]

43Rumors reports that the latest tests published by DxOmark reveal that a $5,500 Leica M Full Frame Sensor Camera could not match the image quality of top tier micro 4/3 cameras like the Panasonic Lumix GH3 and the Olympus OM-D E-M5 (see above). This is no slight against the Leica, which is a phenomenal camera.  It’s just more proof that the gap in image quality between micro 4/3 sensors and their “full frame” cousins has been closed.    M43 for the Win! Matt Granger from PhotoNewsReviews takes a look at the newly announced Nikon Coolpix A fixed lens digital camera, and compares it with another recent entry into the premium fixed lens compact arena, the Fuji X-100s.  This will probably become a common comparison over the next few months as these are two premium compacts from two of the biggest names in imaging, and they’re in roughly the same price range. The Nikon Coolpix A does have some impressive specs.  It’s loaded the same 16mp APS-C sensor that can be found in the Nikon D7000 DSLR, but with the Coolpix A, Nikon have [More]
Our good friend Marlene Hielema (DiscoverMirrorless.com and ImageMaven.com) has just gone through a conversion of sorts. You see, Marlene is a long time corporate photographer who is used to capturing all of her images in RAW format, but now that she’s shooting with a Panasonic Lumix GH3, that’s all could be changing. Marlene writes… “I’m a longtime raw shooter. Perfect WB. Perfect Exposure. Perfect tonal range. Perfect everything. Perfect for corporate photography. But perfect can sometimes be boring. Then I got my Lumix GH3 camera, and soon discovered the Creative Control mode.“ Soon after, she began to play with the [More]
Ali Jennings of DigitalCameraWorld takes a quick look at the newly announced Nikon Coolpix A fixed lens compact digital camera. The Coolpix A borrows the same 16mp APS-C sensor that can be found in the Nikon D7000 DSLR, yet the new Nikon compact is surprisingly small. Despite it having a fixed 18.5mm lens (28mm equivalent) the Coolpix A packs in many features that you’d expect on an SLR, including… Full HD video recording Wi-Fi a native sensitivity range of ISO 100-6400 which can be expanded to 25600 No AA Filter raw and JPEG shooting at 14bit full manual control The [More]
